Please be aware we have had a number of incidents reported in
Cheltenham, Stroud and the Forest of Dean where elderly people have been
targeted in Courier Fraud scams. The victims received a call from
someone falsely claiming to work for their bank who has told them their
bank cards needed to be replaced with new cards. Following this call,
someone has arrived at the victims’ addresses to collect their card. In
some incidents, the offender has given the victim a gift card, claiming
this is a gift from their bank for being a valued customer. During this
conversation, the offender has been able to trick victims into
disclosing their PIN number. Shortly afterwards, the victims cards’ have
been used to withdraw cash or make purchases. Neither your bank, nor
the Police, will ever ask you to hand over your bank cards, withdraw or
move money, or to provide personal information such as your PIN number.
These types of scams tend to move to other areas quickly so please
remain vigilant and share this message with elderly relatives, friends
and neighbours. If you receive a call, please report it to us on 101 -
Victoria Brinton, Cyber Protect Officer.
