Tommy's gone

It's been reported to me that the "Tommy" - the circa 4' high black silhouette of a soldier in remembrance - has disappeared from Maisemore War Memorial overnight. Please advise if you see it somewhere or know who might have taken it.

Postponed September 2023 MPC meeting - now on Tuesday 19 September 2023

Postponed July 2023 MPC meeting - now on Monday 17 July 2023

The MPC meeting postponed from last week will take place at 7.30pm on Monday, 17 July 2023 at the village hall. The revised agenda is available in the usual place.

July Meeting

This was scheduled for Monday 10 July 2023 but three councillors have sent apologies meaning the meeting wouldn't be quorate. We hope to rearrange it for Monday 17 July subject to the venue being available.

Phil Awford - Service of Celebration of Life

A service of celebration of Dad’s life will take place at Tewkesbury Abbey on Wednesday 12th April at 2.00pm.

Phil Awford - RIP

It is with great sadness that we learn today of the sudden death of Phil Awford, our County Councillor, on Saturday 11 March. Phil worked tirelessly on our parish’s issues and problems from the time of his election in 2009, and for example was instrumental in getting many of the recent roadworks done. He was also very involved with the River Severn and the flooding issues thereof being on the following bodies: the Severn and Wye Flood and Coastal Committee, the Severn Estuary Partnership, and the Wessex Regional Flood + Coastal Committee. Besides being a councillor, Phil was a great friend for many of us and will be really missed in the locality.

Delayed refused collections + cancelled Garden Waste collection

Dear all,

 

Yesterday’s waste and recycling catch-up collections went very well – crews worked late into the evening once again and made excellent progress.

 

As of 10am on Thursday, 22 December, the state of the catch-up is as follows:

 

Monday, 12 December: completed.

 

Tuesday, 13 December: completed.

 

Wednesday, 14 December: completed apart from one road which will be collected first thing today.

 

Thursday, 15 December: due to be completed by the end of this week.

 

Friday, 16 December: due to be completed by the end of this week.

 

Crews are confident they can get to every missed bin by the end of this week.

 

These catch-ups are taking place in addition to this week’s normal scheduled collections.

 

If a resident’s bin still needs to be emptied from last week, the message remains:

 

Leave your bin out and we will get to it as soon as possible.

 

Side waste

 

Green bin: up to three black bin bags of refuse side waste will be collected.

 

Blue bin: recycling side waste should be placed in a cardboard box next to your blue bin. If you don’t have a box available, place it in an untied carrier bag (please do not tie the bag because the crews need to check the contents).

 

Garden waste

 

The garden waste service has been suspended this week to allow the collection crews to complete the catch up. This service will now resume on Monday, 9 January. 

If residents have questions or concerns about their garden waste collection, we are asking them to contact customer services on 01684 295010 or at customerservices@tewkesbury.gov.uk

23 September 2022 - Voneus internet down

National Grid are doing works in the vicinity of the church and have turned off the power supply to the church knocking out the Voneus internet system on the tower.

Normal service will hopefully be resumed later today sometime.

Poultry Farm expansion

Maisemore Parish Council writes:

A surprisingly low public attendance at the recent MPC meeting - just one person. Yet we were discussing the poultry farm extension proposals. Does no one have any concerns about that?

This application is going to Planning Committee next Tuesday - 15 March 2022 - with an officer recommendation for APPROVAL

Apart from Maisemore Parish Council's extensive list of objections, only six residents submitted objections and one person supported the application.

None of the other statutory consultees objected - as usual Severn Trent is ignoring the problems we have with surcharging of the combined drainage system in Maisemore. 

If permitted and built, this will mean the main settlement of Maisemore will have increased in size by 49% since 2011, yet we have no increase in facilities apart from a lot of money being directed - without consulting the village - at Maisemore Village Hall. Apart from that and the advent of Gigaclear, there appears to be no demonstrable improvement in any of the "Services" which combine to make Maisemore a "Service Village" and thus suitable for development.

In fact with The Rising Sun having closed, the church's future looking dubious and Maisemore Village Hall's future looking rocky (following resignation of half the committee running it), there is now significant cause for concern.

MEDICAL SUPPLIES - PAINKILLERS, CALPOL, BANDAGES, PLASTERS, BABY WIPES
AND NAPPIES.

DROP-OFF TIMES. - WEEKDAYS - 9 - 11, 3 - 5.                       SATURDAYS - 10 - 12.
